This is a simple guide to set up a craberium. The things which are used here can be replaced by others.
Things you will need
I use a five plan M size tank. This size should be suitable for keeping up to 2 pairs of Geosersama sp.
Next is zeolite, this is optional. It is suppose to remove the smell. You can replace this with any aquarium gravel or pebbles.
I use a mixture of Exxo Terra jungle earth and forest bark as the substrate.
Other things needed are a water container and feeding dish. I choose a rectangular plastic container.
I lay 1 inch of zeolite, followed by forest bark. At the same time, I embedded the plastic container into the substrate. Aesthetically I want it to be pleasing. You can put the water container on top of your substrate.
After that, I sprinkled jungle earth to top it off. You can replace this with peat moss. The main consideration should be the ability of the substrate to retain moisture.
A side view of the tank with the 3 layers of substrate.
I added some moss into the water. This will make it possible for the crabs to climb in and out of the water.
Added some coral chips, not sure if its necessary but since crabs are crustacean, I figure they should have a calcium source.
Next I proceeded with decorating the craberium. At this stage it’s up to you. I decorated mine with wood and stones. These will serve as hiding place for the crabs.
After half an hour, this is how it looks like

Great post. Thanks for sharing
Hi joydiv, wondering how long does it takes to see the female with eggs after they had mated?(referring to vamp. Crab)
Interesting!
Thanks for sharing bro joydiv.
If I got spare tank, I will be more than happy to try it out.
NICE! thanks for posting! where do you get Exxo Terra jungle earth and forest bark? Can I use peat?
Do they need any light?
Yup I guess you can replace with peat. You can get tree bark from the gardens (far east flora etc).
I got the substrate in Jakarta. They have a greater interest in keeping reptiles, so terrarium stuff are readily available here. I am not sure if this is available for sale in Singapore.
The tanks receive indirect sunlight and lighting from my other tanks. If you like, a small low wattage light will do.

Nice project bro! Do you have problems with mold or fungus in these terrarium setups?
Will these crabbies scale the silicone and sneak out of the tank for a walk round the house?
And btw, is "Craberium" a real word? LMAO.
Bro, i think the one feet five plan tanks comes with cover.
I got my with cover on top.
Ya, i think they will climb up the silicone as they move in side way.
Hmm I've never seen the 2 ft Fiveplan tanks come with a cover.
Is there one available for separate purchase?
The crabs so far are unable to climb out through the tank, a cover in Singapore weather might bring up the temperature too much.

One thing I notice, your substrate does not allow the crabs to burrow. Should that be a concern? As I've seen the german site which mix the substrate partially with peat and other parts with more solid mix. So provides various different kinds of terrain.

This post is very informative for vampire crabs.
The crabs is able to burrow in between the different substrate, also provide rocks, small drift wood for them to hide. Coconut husk is a good option as well.

what do they eat?
"Vampire crabs" are more carnivore and do feed on:
• Frozen food: mosquito larvae, cyclops, artemia, mussel meat
• Live food: earthworms (it's best to cut them into pieces in order to prevent the worms from digging in – even under water! –, drowning and rotting unnoticed), gammarus, shrimp, snails
• Fish: deep-frozen smelts et.al., tuna fish, sardines, herring et.al. either fresh or from a can (in their own juice, not in oil)
• Other: sporadically they also eat granular and flake food
Cheerio, BEASTIE ;-)
