How to make a plant grow shorter.
The "uncle " at LL told me that you need to cut off half way from the stem of the plant in order for it not to grow too tall.
I will be trying it on by Nuphar Japonica...will see....
cheers

why u wan to slow down growth of plants?
----------------
The reason is that in no time I think my tank will be over-grown and I need to uproot some of the plants and it will get messy.
Infact most of my plants are relatively slow growers...as recommended bt simon and someone in this forum(sorry can't remember his name at the moment)are bubbling like mad....So I though maybe I should slow down the growth a little.

hahahaa.. but if u talking abt stemmed plants, no way to shorten growth rate.. they will still grow at that rate.. some stemmed plants grow laterally instead of vertical up when there is super strong light

Cheers!

You don't have to uproot all stemmed plants. Depends on how they grow, some plants grow ushier and nicer after pruning. Check out this article by Karen Randall on pruning plants part 1 and part 2.
In general, for stemmed plants, you're looking at replanting/pruning on average every 2 - 3 weeks.
p.s. Other interesting aquarium info at the same site.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.
I have problem finding time to maintain my plants too. That's why I converted my tank to house more Echinodorus spp and Cryptocoryne spp plants. Need minimal maintenace work and you can choose the plants that don't grow too tall..... easy to control.
For stem plants, they grow to be very nice but need constant work on them......
juz my 2 cents worth
