wish to know how deep should the gravel be for a 3ft tank

Depend on ur requirement. If u wanna keep tall stem plants, they need a thicker gravel n usually placed at the rear portion of the tank. U shud create a slope effect, thicker gravel at the back n slope downward 2 the front. 3inch for the front shud be ok n thicker at the back.

IMO, front can be as low as 2 inches... (1 inch base fert, 1 inch gravel). The back as high as 4 to 5 inches depending on choice of plants.
Consider also the width of the tank. If it's only 1.5 ft wide, 2 inch infront and 5 inch behind is hard to maintain. Thru time, the gravel at the back will settle to the front. In that case you'll need driftwood and rocks to terrace the slope.

how are the ways to maintain the slope???
do i just put in the driftwood and rocks to block the gravel from falling over?

Yes, wood would be a good choice. But then again, you dun really need to maintain the slope. With lotsa healthy plants, the roots will hold the substarte in place.

But with repeated uprooting and replanting, the gravel will probably flatten out.

oh yeah my current setting for the gravel is as these:
front center abt 6-7cm
front left and right abt 9cm
back center abt 9cm
back left and side is abt 11 cm
so it's like a valley sloping downwards~
