not necessary... fan can bring the temperature down to 27-26degree but evaporation rate will be high...

If you intend to keep high grade CRS, my suggestion is that you can a chiller. But if you are satisfied with Grade B & C CRS that install a fan will do to save the electricity cost.
I have a few crs A grade living in fan condition tank for a few weeks already. The only hassle I have is the water topup almost have to do it once every 3-4 days.
ok understand.... these shrimps need cool water.... any shrimp that dun need extra cooling? i know Cherry dun need.... Sakuras?
There are lots of shrimps besides Cherries and Sakuras that only need fan. They are Green, yellow, snowball, malayan, tiger etc. Actually there are more shrimp that do not need chiller than those that need![]()
Tips for those who top up their tank regularly....
Please note that you may need to do regular WC.
I read somewhere, the theory is this:
1. Introduced water contains minerals and other impurities.
2. When water evaporates, only the pure H2O leaves the system.
3. This means minerals/salts/other contents in the tank is now more concentrated.
4. Therefore if water is top up over time without WC, the foreign particle content in the tank will be too concentrated and be harmful or even fatal to the plants and animals in the system.
Other side effects may include algae bloom.
Just my 2 cents worth.
Good luck!!!

Certain months in Singapore are very warm and that will definetly kill your crs. Try with the C grades. Don't waste money on A and above if you are using fan.
Bro...do note that water temperature is just one of the conditions which to rear CRS. The water parameter like the ph and cleanliness may also affect the lifespan of these creatures.
I have tried to keep these CRS in office where i have constant temperature round the clock with air conditioning. Somehow I din manage to sustain for more than 9months.....
In fact, a few of my colleagues also tried, but having the same outcome.
CRS are quite sensitive to temperature and water conditions.....
So as what trevally advice, try out on lower grade first.
goodluck pal :-)

I have different opinion, after we topped up the water due to evaporation, we are actually diluting the concentration of the mineral/salts/other contents. Of course we must do a WC at least once a week to reduce the NH3, NO3 or even PH4 due to overfeeding or plants rotting so as not to do harm to our lovely shrimps.
