Hey, glad new member today!!!
I've alway's loved to have aquariums filled with the most exoctic fish that you can buy here, that is here in central KY. I have been on a lost journey in search for the freshwater dwarf seahorse. Kayley, my 5 yr. old daughter wanted so much for Christmas. I searched the web over and over but I
couldn't find a reliable site. Hopefully I can get some information from some of you members.

Pipefish aren't seahorses, but there are definitely FW species of pipefish. I've seen them in stores. The other two kinds mentioned in the article don't exactly thrive in fresh water. You might be able to keep them doing well in brakish water. They'd look good in a species tank with brakish water plants. If they're wild caught, don't buy them; both types are protected under the classification, "vulnerable" in their native countries.

Why not consider a nano marine tank for seahorses? Its really not too hard, but be prepared to hatch brine shrimp to feed them with, and stock up on frozen Mysis shrimp.
I appreciate all of your input. After reseaching further, I have decided that the most practical fish to buy would be the pipefish. I have read that they adapt much more quickly and have a much higher mortality rate than that of their cousins. Thanks for helping to decide.
A higher mortality rate would mean that they die more frequently..that was probably just a mispost given the quicker adaptation part, but thought I'd point it out just in case. Hope you find one that works well for you and your daughter.
