1st one look like malayan, 2nd one look like tiger.
bought both in a bag of tiger shrimps. purposely took this bag because these two look a bit "different". at first glance, i thought they were blue/malayan shrimps mixed up in the bag... ?
1) shrimp 1 - it has a think stripe from head to tail:
2) shrimp 2 - it is blue! stripes not very visible.
what do you think?
am asking because i'm too used to seeing my normal tigers that look like this :
thanks!
1st one look like malayan, 2nd one look like tiger.
I will not be too surprised that they're Malayan x Tiger considering that both are in the Caridina family and can hybridise
based on garnelenforum.de, it should not.

IMO, both of them are not tigers. Tiger used to have irregular stripes.
Pics 1 & 2 look like malayan shrimp.
not tigers? sob sob...
anyway, here are two other bigger pictures of them. they do have "faint" stripes.
also based on crustaforum, Malayan and Tigers do NOT crossbreed.
1) shrimp 1
2) shrimp 2
anyone wants to change their vote?
Hi there,
I think these are tiger shrimp because I have seen other wild caught tiger shrimp with a stripe on the back in real, too. In my opinion, the cross-breeding tables of some internet forums have to be revised in many points. More details can only be assumed by scientists working on shrimp, I guess.
Best,
Imke
thanks, guys/gals for your comments.
think they are tigers. can see some stripes "a bit more visible" now.
saw this thread and thought picture 2 looks similar to my this one and only odd looking shrimp i found in a bag of blue shrimps.
sorry to ride over this thread.
just wondering if it's a tiger or malayan shrimp?
yours look like a tiger shrimp.
This is a classic example of why not to mix different species in the same tank.
Regardless of which species it could be, there is a doubt. It could be a tiger just with bad colors. If it is a "Malayan" than it's color will change again, the tigers color can change but the pattern does not.
Had a similar problem when I put two different species in the same tank. Had some Indian green shrimp, but the prior occupants were C. babaulti 'blue' a related species which can change color. Very difficult to know for sure if I was able to take the blue shrimp out of the tank before the green shrimp went in...
Even had some trouble with other shrimp, which do not look similar but can. Ex. Orange/Tangerine shrimp and Yellow shrimp, don't look the same but both species have light/clear color males.
Very confusing, even if they will not cross.
