Is PL lightning better fror my 2ft tank?
Now my 2ft tank is shone by a normal FL 20W tube.

If i get a 2ft PL tube at 36W, is that better for my planted tank?

A 2ft PL light set (36W) sells at S$40, is that reasonable or do u know any cheaper places?

An additional 36W would be better for your 2ft. Can't comment much on FL/PL light fitting prices as I've never purchased any before. Assuming you tank size is 2X1.5X1.5, you water volume is approx 25gallons which means with the additional 36W, you're supplying 2.24W/g. With this, you have a few choices of low to medium light plants you can plant sucessfully.
    Cheers!!

    Thanks.

Mine is a 2ft but is a 12 gallon. the width and depth is only 1 ft.

So i guess a 36W is enuf for me.

    36/12 = 3W per galloon.

    howz that for my setup???

2ft FL provides more even lighting for your 2ft tank. But they take up more space.
36W PL is compact and packs more power but not sure if it lights up your tank evenly because the tube is about 16.5" only. Pls check.
There are 55W PL sets but seems less common. The tube length is about 21".

Prices for PL set can vary depending whether they use eBallast or not. Can check with Nature Aquarium as I think most of their sets are eBallast.

If you count your entire tank volume, you lightings are slightly under...you need approx. 44Watts to reach 3W/Gal. But since you need to substract the volume away from substrate and maybe driftwood, it should be enough.

actually, the combination of yr 20watts FL and a 36w will do greatly (I had that combo when i first started with good results)

Yeah, i tot abt that but that will take up the above space of which half is for my overhead filter, u know what i mean. great idea though.

best if i am have an external canister-type filter.

I would say try to do away with your overhead filter. It's not too good of an idea to use it cos much CO2 is lost due to the splashing. Also, as you mentioned, it takes up space which could be used for that additional light.

What you could do is you can use an internal filter. I've used the Eden304 ($16~$25) sucessfully in my 2ft tank. It's small and the flow is quite ideal for a planted tank. The downside is that it needs regular cleaning as it clogs up quite fast.
