    FYI.

Keong Seong is selling 3ft and 4ft MH light fixtures. It looks rather good esp for ppl who do not want to hang it from the ceiling. For the price, you'll have to ask the lfs..... did not find out myself.

The 4ft fixture is 2X150W MH + 1X36W PL and the 3ft fixture is 2X150W MH. The brand is Weipro (I think). Check it out for those interested.
    Cheers!!

    JazzB,
I thought you have an 8ft tank. Would 2X150W be enough? Or is it for another tank. Juz curious. Would be wonderful if we can see the pics of your 8ft tank.
    Cheers!!

    sher no prob.
    sorry if i ever mislead u ...
my 8 ft tank will be due to arrive arnd may.
im now starting out with my riccia lawn in my 4 ft tank with some potted plants and abt 300+ of tetras +corys and some don noe wat fish and corys(chinese name). hehe as long as its vegetarian i buy lor...
    so ended up so much.
anyway the time space is for me to create up the lawn +quarantine of fishes(see how they do? the strongest and healthest goes into my 8 footer!!! haha) btw Keong seng no stock on the MH .(i bought the last 1!!!)
he say sold off 10 liaoz...
i reserve 1 more... so it b 4 MH lights!!!
i baragain all for 900 bucks.... BTW KS will be bringing ADA brand of MH . Price wise ... see the brand ur know liaoz!!! anyway i found the weipro MH not bad.. jus tt it flickers upon starting and make a bit of sound like wanna explode for like 5 mins? then the rest of the time is pure hot intense lights!(ouch! when i say its hot , its realli realli hot!!!) but according to my lousy mercury therm. the temp. at the water surface directly under my MH is ermm like 30 deg.with no fan or watsoever...btw the lights are great! used less than a week and those not so red plants i buy at LFS turned redder!!!(still fiddling with the idea of chiller or fan.) anyway will post up pics of my 8 footer once its up! (don wanna take pics of my ugly 4 footer quarantine tank hehe..)

btw 300+ fish is no joke. they practically finish every pellet i feed them....(poured abt 10 times through the small hole on the bottle plus quite a bit of bloodworms...PHEW!)
    anyway
    CHEERS and wish me luck!!!!

JazzB, do you presently have 3ft or 4ft tank? U mentioned 3ft in ur previous post.

I have been looking at MH light for some time already but put off by the need of dwelling on ceiling over an established 4ft tank. My ceiling is quite tall too. Therefore excited about the overhead one. Went down to KS to take a look last Fri. My main concern on this overhead type is not able to adjust height. By adjusting height, I can adjust the intensity of light (and temp.). I can also make sure that the light covers the whole base of tank.

What's the full dimension of your 4footer? Mine is 4x2x2. Will the light covers the whole base?

    Thx for sharing.

    bro i have a 4 ft tank not a 3 ft....
the 3 ft i mention is the MH.
regarding not able to adjust the height to cover the whole tank i think thats not true
i find tt the height of the overhead MH im using is perfectly ok! my riccia is growing like rushing to hell!!! hahha anyway i place the 3 ft MH shining onli my 2 ft part of my 4 ft tank. coz no glass covers mah . anyway tt 4 ft tank is just a plant growing and quarantine tank. so its ok for me.
regarding ur 4 ft tank i think tt is a bit problem if u purchase the 3 ft MH as the light intensity for the sides of the tank may not be enough plus the back too... so wat i can recommend is place the lights over high lights plant and the rest of the areas use low light plants... but if u want to get fancy... u can get the 4 ft MH which with a BIG diff of 200 dollars for a pathetic extra 1 ft length and 72W of PL lights. ( same as 3 ft MH with 2 x 150 W of MH ) hehe . reason i get the 3 ft one is im using two 3 ft MH for my 8 footer plainly for my highlight plants. in the middle space of 2 feet i use a 2 ft PL lights of 72W for medium lights plants.
SO conclusion if u want to be cheapo go for low light plants and use FL lights. OR if u find u got too much money to spare u can by all means get the 4 ft MH lights haha. BUT!!! u can be like me (not rich but act rich) get the 3 ft MH and arrange ur plant to their lights req.hehe . anyway think abt it... i also got 1 halogen 300 W lamp got for 30 bucks to simulate the morning and evening lights.... Still thinking of a good way to place it ... Hmmmm....btw tt halogen lamp is yellowish lights hor... opps forgot to add my 4 ft tank is 4 x 1.5 x 1.5....
and the best thing is u noe wat??? NO need to adjust the height!!!! the height is perfect!!! for my 1.5 if not TOO MUCH!!! now my riccia is growing almost 1.5 times a day... so i think tt the MH is jus PERFECT for my 2.5 ft deep upcoming 8 ft tank... hehe. 1 thing to note. pls read my above thread carefully... without any FANS in a HUMID room. (but got shade la) my water temp is 30 degrees....
so plus fan think maybe 28!!! PERFECT!!!
note: im in no way connected to KS .
