hi all, especially to high grade CRS breeders,

i'm into keeping SSS grade mosuras, and Singapore's tap water is loaded with chlorine, and at pH 8.0.

    1) do u all perform water changes with tap/distilled water?

    2) if tap, what medication do u dose to remove chlorine from tap water?

    3) how often, and how much do u guys change?

my tank is 2feet planted, still waiting for it to be fully cycled, now at nitrite peak.

    thanks!

    Hi,

If you are new in keeping crs, should start with those low grade first ( eg C and B grade) as they are more hardy and also a test to whether you are able to keep them. If they died, you won't loose out so much. SSS grade and mosura are expensive and not easy to take care of.

    To your questions,

    1) If tap PH is high, its a good idea to mix it with distilled water to lower the PH. Do take note that distilled water got no minerals in it and very soft. Use mosura mineral plus if u intend to use distilled water.

    2) Seachem Prime is a good chlorine and chloromine removal water conditional. Use it with the recommended dosage.

    3) Change water once a week. 20%

Firstly the water in Singapore contains chloramines. So you definitely need to have chemicals to remove it even if you age the water.

Distilled water might be a bit difficult to obtain if you need to change 20% of your tank water weekly. Besides distilled water is not ideal for the shrimps.

Agree with bro trevally, start with lower grades first if your are newbie shrimp keeper. Still have lots to learn.

I'm not a breeder but I do have some nice CRS inside my tank.

    1) Tap water

    2) Currently I'm using Dennerle Tap Water Treatment (marketed under the new nano range), I've tried ADA and Seachem Prime too for my other shrimps.

    3) 10% twice a week (total 20% per week)

I'm using DI water remineralized with Grotech kH+Ca 3. And sparingly dosing Mosura Mineral plus as necessary to maintain GH and Baxter KH Plus for KH.

I didn't intentionally buy the Crystal Pro DI system for my CRS though...It was to mix saltwater for my marine tank.

Got tired of lugging 30L Jerry cans of saltwater around.

I was using Tapwater treated with Genesis Anti Chlorine/Chloramine and left to age for 24 hours before that with no ill effects.
