    i have a 2ft tank. using dennerle gravel, about 2 inches thick.
    now i plan to get base fert, but what the gravel covering it, wont the base be pretty thick?
    someone advise on how thick the base fert and gravel should be, my tank is 60x335x30 cm

    there is no hard and fast rule on thickness of base fertilizer.
    thicker base fertilizer will last longer but not too thick. ensure that there is sufficient height left for your plants to grow.
    on top of the base fertilizer, you should have about 1 inch of gravel to prevent the base fertilizer from leeching into the water column.

    ok, thank you. looks like i have to get rid of 1" of my gravel... in fact, its not gravel at all, more like course sand.
