Care to share the pH and hardness of your water parameters?

ADA soil, so pH should be around 6.2 and kH = 0

    Hi,
I had tried keeping 4 pairs of German Rams before in my 2 ft planted tank/ADA soil years back and they breed together at the same time but all the eggs got funguszzz. You might want to consider getting two pairs if you are interested in seeing their full behaviour but do provide more hiding place. BTW, I kept them in my room = sometimes on aircon only. No sign of any white spots on them though.

Most of the time, they will not attack other fishes unless they are breeding and also if the fish is small enough to be fitted in their mouth.

You might want to take note that some Rams sold in Singapore are deformed due to too much inbreeding from the fish farms. While some are just plain dull colour. So do choose those that are fully coloured.

I notice that your tank = white gravel. Your PH is require to be around 5.5-6.0 to keep this beauty. If possible switch to ADA soil or use peat. That should lower the PH. Provide more hiding place too. If not your tank will not be suitable to keep them.

    Hi Shadow,

Thanks for all the advices & suggestions.

May I know is there other fishes in your 1.5 footer other than the pair of ram? I was thinking of breeding them too if the tank is suitable.

yes there is couple of otos (2 of them) and pygme cory (4). No shrimps, I tried putting shrimps before and it was attached to died within a minute. Initially I have 1 female and 3 male, at that time I do not know yet how to differentiate between male and female. It is interesting to see them fighting for female. The way they fight is like kissing each other .

I did not measure the ph & hardness value of the water. Normally I just leave the pail of water under my desk for 2-3 days, then add some genesis anti-chlorine & aquarium salt before WC.

My workplace is in jurong island, heard that they will be changing the water supply of the island to fully NEwater in near future. Dunno how will that affect the fishes.

If that is the case then I think it should be fine to add a pair or 2 female & 1 male to my tank.

Just came back from C328, they only left with few pieces of gold rams. Didn't managed to get any german or balloon rams.

    Hi bro JL23,

I have added a small piece of driftwood & 2 java ferns to my tank, will the D.W bring down the ph value of the water?

    Thanks.
