what is your KH, pH, CO2 levels????
when i but 2 otos into my planted tank.... nothing happen..... the live happily...
however after 2 days.... i decided to put 3 tetra in my tank....
as soon as those 3 enter my tank.... they whent straight up to the surface.....and started swiming around on the top surface....seem like gasping for air.....
and just after 1 min.... one seem to be dying liao....
so i immediately took out 2 of them and leave one in the tank and see how it goes.... after like 3 min.... when i go back and see.... it died liao!
what had happen!!!!!!!
both my otos dont seem to have problem.....
but they do rush up to the surface for air some time....
only once in a while.....
pls advice!!!
what is your KH, pH, CO2 levels????
actally i just started on planted tank.....
not really sure about those KH, pH, CO2 levels....
will go and but those testing kit....
cos i dont want to kill fishes any more..... one is enough
any idea what is the cost that kill the fish?
co2 too high?
How long has your tank been setup? If it is a new...probably ammonia or nitrite poisioning. Might also want to look into CO2 level (you do know that singapore water's KH is mostly less than 1 which means you need to dose KH plus stuff or baking soda).

the tank set up for around 6 days....
6 days? ... most probably nitrite or ammonia poisoning ... check the gills of the otos ... are they red?
cycling would take anywhere from 2 weeks to a month ... get some testkits to verify before more of the fish die

looks like ammonia poisoning.
Your tank is definitely in the cycling stage and do yourself a favour and get a nitrite test kit. Do a partial water change now to lower your possible high nitrite level.

yeh i willl.... however yesterday i already change 1/3 of the water liao....
i think must change again....
actally dont want to put those terta in one.....
my friend lah.... give me 3 of them and ask me to us ethem to circle tank!......
hai
i dont want my otos to died!!!!!!!!!! help!
Ask your friend for some of his tanks filter media to help speed up the cycling process...also you can add more plants (help to take up ammonia). Get yourself a nitrite test kit fast...test and if high do small water changes to keep the nitrite down...(ammonia don't think is still there..but you might want to test also).

i will... will up date u all....
tank set up for 6 days.
with only 2 otos initially, can the ammonia/nitrite level be so high that it kills the tetra but not otos?
is your tank injected with co2?
when you setup you tank, what are the things that you have done?
thomas liew
yes my tank is with diy co2.....
I keep seeing so many posts about people who don't know anything about tank cycling, it ought to be stickied in fish keeping/planted tank forums...grr
cycling a tank is not difficult, I've cycled my 4ft tank with 14 discus and 1 silver arowana. just need to keep that ammonia under control. (ie: daily water change at 50% and feeding a minmum.)
