I wonder which small fishes can makan them and are also safe for shrimps?
Hi
Just found out that Planaria carry a toxin on their surface which is particularly potent towards shrimp
Here's an article:

I've always thought that even though they look disgusting they are harmless - like tubifex worms. Now that I know they can hurt my shrimp, man I'm on a war path
I wonder which small fishes can makan them and are also safe for shrimps?
Hmm I would take that article with a pinch of salt (haha) its dated 2003, and full of grammatical errors.
It is not a scientific paper, and appears to be hearsay repeated off some cichlid forum quoted by a paper, then re-quoted as an online article.
I don't like how its presented in a form that suggests it is based on something besides the speculation of a random someone from some random newsgroup.
No citations, no papers, no real research.

I have witnessed on several occasions my shrimps - blur as sotong - accidently stepping onto a planaria and just go bonkers, jerking away and almost writhing. I suspect its to do with the toxic slime layer on the Planaria. Incidently most fish find Planaria unpalatable because of this slime coat.
Here's an even deadlier account of how Planaria can harm shrimp.

Cheers
i feel the best way of overcoming planaria is to only feed only the required food quantity and not over feed it. Also to remove any leftover food upon shrimp consumption.
There is no way to overcome planeria by reducing feeding even starvation wont help, not even by trap.
silane
so can you kindly advise us on what to do to deal with planaria?
My CRS tank was so infested with them I gotto tear it down in order to get rid of them.
I suspect their toxic is so powerful some of my Sakura's turned black/purplish after death! I also notice that the shrimps tend to be more vulnerable right after molting... any of you guys can help verify?
They are real nightmare!!!
Thanks for sparing us fom trying something that doesn't work anyways. I really have no heart to starve my shrimps. Some tanks have hundreds in them and I would be afraid I'll lose too many shrimplets by starvation method.
What's a viable option?
Ya I think those that are weak will be most susceptable to being devoured by Planaria. Have not witnessed a newly molted shrimp being attacked but I would imagine they would be vulnerable.
Chloe , Vermex works for me. And just siphon the planaria out whenever you see them.
Thanks for your suggestion.
Yes I have come across a number of accounts that such medications, which are directed at animal or human intestinal parasites do work and are shrimp safe
I think I'll be especially interested in the dosage because after all we want to kill the worms without having any effects on our shrimps
Where can i get thos Vermax?
Old guy into Apisto.....again....
Joe
LFS in Clementi should have.
