Ive been in the air conditioning buisness a long time , they call them swamp coolers and in the desert areas with low humidity they work fantastic but in areas with high humidity no, theres not enough evaporation effect to cool water.... Good luck
anybody noticed the recent scorching weather lately.
Very good for fishes like discus but terrible on us humans.
Am trying to invest in an air cooler, those with a water reservoir inside and works by electricity circulating the room air.
Can anyone tell if it really works, ie. cool the room air and by how many deg C, and how does it work, other than my simple understanding of air being suck in and cool by the water reservoir?
Thanks.![]()

I think they're called humidifiers and yes it only works if the air is dry.
You can if you dare to fail - Stan Chung
just bought one today.
seems that there is a humidifying button on this one to press also.
but singapore weather should not be too "wet" for it not to work right?
also now they come with an ice pack (frozen first) to put in the water tray to help in the cooling effect .
may help looking at the logic of basic heat transfer theory.
thnks
Interesting. How's the result? It's pretty sunny out there![]()
Wonder why did they even sell humidifiers in singapore. Isn't singapore humid enough?
day 1 of use = not very impressed.
perhaps the set is underpowered( listed as 60w) for my room, cannot feel any difference , certainly far from air con comfort.
will add in 2 ice packs tonight and re-assess.

i think i know this one.
they are supposed to be used in air conditioned places, as you know it is very dry in all air-con places (sick building syndrome), so not for non air con places.
Ironically (the use of humidifiers i mean) in Singapore, but true.
anyway, confirmed it is not useful in normal temperature places, probably will help in air con places only, like in shopping centres.
