Just for discussion. Anyone have tried using carbonate water, macam the tonic water, as carbon source for your planted tank?

    Care to share your experience?

I think that was what Takasi Amano did when he was experimenting planted tank in his early days, by pouring in perrier mineral drink.

i hope you mean soda water, not tonic. Just plain carbonated water. Yea it works. Amano tried it before but it's definitely not cost efficient.

Yes tonic water...a colleague tried and it's a sad case...

Definitely not cost effective as mentioned. Maybe he tried just for curiousity and he just got the wrong type of carbonate water.

tonic water consist of carbonated water, sugar, citric acid, ‘flavourings’ and quinine. No wonder it's a sad case. It's like adding Sprite or Cola to your tank!

If want to have liquid source of carbon, try seachem excel which is meant to be a carbon source and has the extra benefit of killing off algae. Note that its made from a convert of formaldehyde which is used for embalming dead people. Too much and your plant and fish also .
