Does anyone know if any of our LFS carry this product?
I have seen some foreign reviews. Anyone care to share some local experience using this product? ie parts availability or compatibility with parts from other brands?
i haven't seen it available locally. however, similar alternatives are available. Most popular seems to be the Eden-501, though I haven't seen it mentioned much lately. Others include Boyu EF-05, Resun CY-20 and a few others that I haven't had personal experience with.
Some people like to use Eheim 2211s as well. Rated 300 litres per hour (same rating as an Eden 501 i believe), but gives much much better flow, and has much more volume for more media to be fit in.

Of Boyu EF-05 and Resun CY-20, does anyone have feedback on its usage and reliability?
I personally prefer the Resun CY-20 over the Boyu EF-05. I've used both, and I find the Boyu gives a slower flow. Could be that it's rated lower, I'm not certain.
What's the size of your tank?
I intend it for a 16 litre tank. The tank has been running on a cheap HOB filter for the past 3 years. The current tenants of the tank are 6 white cloud mountain minnows and 6 neon tetra, with java fern, java moss and nana.
The cheapo HOB may die any time and I am thinking of a external canister for better management of the bioload.
Can these small external canisters self- restart in case of a power failure?
as long as the prime is maintained, yes they can. a 16 litre tank is probably too small for a 2211 unless you control the flow with valves. I'm using 2211 for my 1 ft cube and it's perfect.
Why don't you consider sourcing for an Eden 501? I tried both Boyu and Resun before eventually settling for Eden 501 for all my nano tanks before I upgraded to Eheim 2211 for the 1ft cubes. It's better made and more quiet.
