hahaha... that's a very unique and innovative Teapot Filter! Have you apply for the patent first before releasing the photo?

For fishes, I have kept White Cloud Minnow, common Goby and Half Beak with the newts with no problem. However, I have big problem with guppies because they like to nip around, eventually nipping on the newts, and then dies off after that...

I know you are asking about fishes, but generally, do not mix with other amphibians. Not even other types of newts.

Depends on the species of newts. If you get the aggressive paddletail newt, you can't even have two of them in a small tank. PTs are also aggressive feeders and will go after fish and baby frogs. Well, basically anything that will fit in their mouth.

I've had CFBs together with otos, and yamatos. But it was a big tank and plenty of algae to keep the shrimp and otos happily fed and plenty of plants for everyone to hide.

The CFBs did not bother the yamatos. They investigated them in their short-sighted way, but never took a bite. Yamatos had a feast when the newts shed skin.

Had dwarf gourami in there too, and they didn't bother the newts.

Luck (re personality of tank mates), space and availability of food and other factors are at play.

Newts most often die in captivity of fungus infection when their body slime or skin itself is broken. Nippy fishes are the most common cause of that.

In general, avoid territorial fishes that have a tendency to nip tank mates for any reason. So, fishes like bettas and most cichlids are out for sure.

Be prepare that the newts will make a go for fry or baby shrimp... if the shrimp or fish breed. On the hand, that could prove to be a ready supply of food (provided the fish are not the protective parent type).

Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

Hmmm... don't forget that fishes WILL compete with the newts for food. The CFBs are pretty slow, compared to fishes.

    added a cactus
    bought from ericsson pet farm

    I use an internal pump

change it to a smaller unit today.

    added neon tetras.

    cactus !

First concern: Will the newts get poked when they try to get near, or worst, when they crash landed onto the cactus when they try to climb the glass! Newts is not really very clever IMHO...

Second concern: Can the cactus withstand the humid environment inside the vivarium...

The general wisdom is, do NOT mix different species of amphibians. Amphibians will eat smaller amphibians. Some amphibians have toxins on their skins to discourage predators from eating them... so one may poison the other. Or at least cause health problems.

Clawed frogs have "claws" (not real claws, but harden skin on the tip on the toes)... might scratch the skin on the newts. Most CFBs perish from fungus infection when their skin gets broken and get infected... I don't know how likely the clawed frog can (accidental or otherwise) scratch the newt, though.

White Tree Frogs are much bigger than CFBs (and also have huge mouths). They may look upon the puny CFB as food.

So... do you think it's wise?

Re: What can i mix with newts?

honestly, it better not to mix any fishes with newts for just two reasons,.. they might get eaten if they are small enough. Newts can be surprisingly fast at catching prey..trust me..i lost an endler this way..and secondly, newts have toxins which can kill fishes when the fish decides its wants a to try taking a bite or even simply "licking" a newt..lol
