    Hello guys,

Juwel tanks are distributed by Camfurt Enterprise, which is the sister company of Sam Yick. As such, price at all their brances are controlled. They do have showrooms which carries almost the entire range for your inspection pleasure.

Alternatively, try the following shops to see what deals they can offer:

    1. That Fish and Pet Place at Hougang Ave 2
    2. Mr. Fish Aquaristik at Joo Chiat Place
    3. Clementi 328 Polyart at Clementi Ave 2

A good alternative to the German made Juwel tanks would be the German made Bioplast tanks, which System Control and Enginering at Boon Keng Road carries.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

    hi benny

Any idea how the price of Bioplast tanks compare w that of Juwel? How many light tubes do they come with? I presume they don't come w built-in filters?

    Hi Mike,

Actually, at Bioplast, you can customise the size of the tank and they will built and ship it to you. Even light options can be further discussed. No filter included.

You still looking for your tank!? I thought by now it would be cycling already.

You could say it's the most aaaagonising test of patience for me... I feel like bursting anytime[]

I'm only moving into my new home end of March, not to mention I'm still bleeding heavily after all the reno. It'll be at least 2 mths before I recover fr the haemorraghe. And there's the upcoming Aquarama '03... I expect there would be good bargain for tanks, etc. At least I know Juwel is on the exhibitors list... but there's no telling if my patience can endure that long!

Besides the above mentioned places, I believe pe-we alley also carries a range of Juwel Tanks.

    Mike,

You seem very pro Juwel from all your previous posts. I think you should study the system to understand the lighting constraint if you use their setup.

Even if you were to get the Juwel multilux light upgrade set, you only get a max of 144 W of FL in that 105 gallon tank (I recall you were interested in the RIO400). That works out to be 1.37 W per gallon. Your choice of plants will be restricted. In addition, because it's a closed system, the temperature goes up substantially if you are not using a chiller. This again further restrict your choice of the remaining plants. Mounting a fan in the closed system will be a challenge and will not help much if the hot air is still circulating in the closed system.

In addition, the cabinet is open in the centre. This restricts the space you have for equipment in both the left and right cabinet. Drilling a hole in the centre portion will void you warranty as your supporting structure is tampered with.

Just my opinion for your consideration.

    Cheers,

one of my friend is selling his juwel tank. its a 4 by 1.5 by 2 feet tank if i am not wrong. just bought for around 2 weeks and bought at $1000, going for $800. he wanted a bigger tank if he could sell it.

if you want you could also view the tank first.

Hey benny, I would nominate you as AQ's tank consultant![]

Frankly, I do not have any experience w tanks bigger than 2 ft but I'm aware of the lighting and overheating issues w Juwel tanks but have not considered space requirements for equipment.

Concerning lighting & overheating, I'm under the impression that the frontmost flap is detachable to create an opening. I think a way to increasing wattage is to replace this w a commercial sit-atop light unit (I've seen 4-5 ft ones at Qian Hu F F) due to the raised height...which will also take care of the ventilation problem. The option will also allow more frontal illumination of the fish to bring out their colours.

The disadvantages of a built-in filter has been discussed but I think it is not without advantages. For one thing, internal space taken up becomes less of an issue with size (also frees up cabinet space). Price also includes filter.

At one time I'd given up on Juwel because they didn't have a peach cabinet for a 5 ft but they have recently attended to the deficiency and this has renewed my interest.

I gather fr another forum that Juwel is a big thing in the U.K. and they are the neatest tanks I've seen so far in terms of cabinet and glass/ silicone finishing, but I will keep my options open.

Would you have the add & tel to System & Control Engrg (no tel nos in AQ LFS list??)? I've been too busy w juggling the burdens of 2 houses, but once the dust has settled, I'd like to go tank hunting and take a look at Bioplast tanks.

    cheers!
    mike
