think it's because salt water more heavy. that's why doesn't mix.

This project is in just about every fish store around here. I haven't tested it yet my self. To test it, maybe it'd work to use some dye and an empty aquarium with a filter running? Leave it for a week, simulate a water change or two, see what it takes to make the dye come out. If you wanted to be more precise, you could use DI water to fill up the aquarium, then get a Na (sodium) or Cl (chlorine) test kit and figure out the exact amount leeched.
