Hi Kevin, have you seen it in amano tank ? you probably need to tie the fern onto the driftwood and use rock to secure or surround the hanging driftwood. This is probably the only way I can think of.

use a fish line to tie the java fern to a drift wood...
Just search for pictures on net to get better ideas...

i think the idea has been miss understood here. im after a scape that uses fern type plants without the application of wood.
is it not possible to tie the plants onto stones?

Hi Kebincus,
Naturally ferns underwater or on ground, grow on wood or dried leaf pile...
I don't think they might able to attach themselves well on stone.

Yes you can. For example try securing the Java fern at the base of the rocks or between them. Just some imagination and creativity needed.

Hi Kevinicus,
I think ive read somewhere that you can use a certain type of glue, ( maybe the ones reefers use to glue corals to liverocks ) to stick the fern to rocks. It wont hinder the growth as ferns grow upwards and have their " daughter " plants at the tip of their leaves. Im unsure of what will come out of it but if you think it'll work then go give it a try and let us know the results.
Usually I'll just tied them with thin fishing lines. Almost invisible to the eye. Once the ferns roots start growing thicker, you can't see the lines anymore.
...hmm... getting the plant to seduce itself will be tough. Even after you tie it.
