Just got news Mrs. Toh is getting some in on Monday (C32.
Price wise it will set you back right between 10 and 20, each, unless the price has changed for this batch...![]()

hehe added to my collection last night too. i love these otos
How come this Zebra Oto so expensive?
hi sandfire, how much did you pay for ot ?
hi celticfish, any special requirement for zebra oto ? i currently have 5 otos happily in my tank so can i assume should be ok for the zebra ? as such a price need to prepare
thanks in advance. mywish4fish
I believe the price is due to them looking "better" than the normal otos, rarity (read seasonal avialability) and ...
It's like regular "regular" pencilfish versus the red coral/purple pencilfish.
Quite hard to give a "valid" reason that all can accept.
Just buy what you like regardless of "cheap" or "expensive" (of course within your budget)...
I'm afraid you will need to get a few of them as they, like the regular otos, thrive better in a group.
They love to "socialize" and swim about together.
I also think cool water is critical for their long term survival in your tank.
Probably no higher than 27C would be a good start.
I cannot say for sure as I've also recently had them for the first time myself.
If you cannot provide the temperature I'd really suggest you refrain from getting them till you are able to do so.
Though "rare" I've heard they are being bred in Taiwan.

saw the zebra oto at c328 today.. quite healthy looking.
This batch is very healthy for its size. Previously, my experience was that the large zebra otos were hardier than the small ones. This batch is small, but very healthy. Colouration wise, the white portions are more white than the previous batch, which is darker and more "yellowish" (kind of like comparing L66 to L333). I have both batches in my tank side by side now so easy to compare
yea, i find the colour alot more stable for this batch as well... looks nice and tempting.. but the price turned me off.
hi sandfire, no worries about 'revealing' of price issue. i will probably swing by tomorrow to take a look and maybe tempted enough to purchase. we shall see. thanks.. mywish4fish
