wad i mean is ... usually pple switch on having the filter run all day long ... but for i usually switch on it when i swithc off the light ... izzit alright for canister filter to be siwtch on and off ? will anything happen to the water ?
why would you want to switch off yr cannister for???

Its a big no no to turn "on" and "off" your filter as your bacteria colony in the canister filter will die off due to the lack of oxygen through water circulation during the "off" hours.

If you off it, the beneficial Bacteria will not have its food, e.g. oxygen a and other stuff. hinders the growth of the bacteria.
The power the filter consume is not high also.
Beneficial bacteria needs the oxygen that the circulating water brings and through it (and others), helps you to improve the water quality. Switching it off for more than 2-3 hours and you are already killing off many lives. [:

What is your logic for switching off the filter?
Then you really "bo eng" rite? everyday go on and off the filter?

oh ... i get wad u guys meant liaoz .... thanks anyway !!!
To do less washing of the canister, install a sponge at the intake. Then all the dirt will not get in and u problably need to wash the inside half yearly. right?
