Was just reading today's Straits Times' report on motor insurance premiums and related reports on fake/inflated claims and decided it's a good idea to install an in-car camera to record trips.

I Googled about and found the SiriusEye by SgMotoring.com. Just $99. Anybody using this? Any feedback?

Anybody using other in-car camera systems for similar purpose? Found a few from outside Singapore, but really advance (a little overkill, actually) and expensive.

    Any recommendations?

I feel that it's a nice buy, other countries have already adopted this system & have been using it. Singapore has not implement all these yet.

    Cheers!

Only problem is vandals or druggies may think its some phone and smash the windscreen to take the set.

My friend uses something from overseas.. pretty high tech and i think its a good idea to prevent lying stories from various parties. This i feel should be good enough for local use.. however, if you're demanding something more... then should look elsewhere.

I've been searching and the same camera comes up all over the web under different branding and prices. Even Amazon has it. LOL.

I only lament that it is not using a fish eye lens and it's not easy to remove (to hide when parked).

I was looking at this too. Perhaps it can be mounted on the top so that it's not so obvious?

Cool. I'll go check it out.

    Cheers,
I did think of that, but wondering how... without making holes or other superficial modifications. Maybe look for a phone/ipod/GPS/device holder that attaches to the windscreen with a suction cup.

From the picture, it looks like it's just a simple screw with textured knob. So I think it's not difficult to remove, just tedious.

I'll be in Suntec this Sunday, so I'll pop in to Marina Square and check it out (if I remember). I'll update this thread if I do.

Strange question coming up...by the same token, I can use this for my front door of my flat right?

Re: In-car cameras to record accidents

There are better systems for household. This one is specific for cars because of the power supply: plug into car cigarette lighter, or AA batteries. Other car-centric feature is that it records to the device instead of a remote recording device. The problem with that is, if the device is stolen or broken, the footage is gone too.

The normal household systems may be smaller, easier to hide and records to a remote device, so even if the culprit manages to remove or damage the camera, you should still have footage (provided he didn't break into your house and look for the recording device).

    Many other reasons.

Ow! It's 297 pounds (as in currency, not weight). The G sensor data is overkill in my opinion.

    Still, thanks for the link.

Found another local supplier and installer. A more complex system and look expensive too. No price indication on the site.

And another one... designed to record motor racing, but I guess can serve our purpose too.
