i've heard UV sterilizers oxidize trace elements.
but still many have noted no ill effects at all for years.
take note those UV bulbs ain't cheap

I remember I've read somewhere that the UV is not necessary for planted tank. Usually it's for pond's use only. Generally, too much UV lights harms every living thing. But a few hours a day may not do as much harm I guess...Don't think I'll use those in my tank anyway. Even if I do have a problem with algae, I'd prefer solve it the natural way...

pond is direct sunlight, difficult to control thus UV will help prevent green water.
You are not puting UV light on top of the tank, the UV sterilizer should be in line with filter out flow. Thus it won't harm your fauna.

not putting UV on top of tank.Just putting it after the chiller...what u guys think? was thinking a small one will do?
