    Dear All,

I'm just considering ideas for a new sulawesi shrimp tank. Kena poisoned by all the stunning pix of these shrimp I've seen. I'm thinking of a small setup, just 1ft, with perhaps just one species of shrimp and some Tylomelania sp. snails. I'd go for a rockscape without plants. I've very minimal experience with shrimp, and I'd like to hear what all the experts here have to say before I commit to this setup. There's alot of info online, but I'd like to hear from some of your personal experiences:

    1. What are the easiest species to keep?

    2. I've heard that sulawesi shrimp thrive and breed at higher temperatures (unlike say CRS), closer to our Singapore room temp. Is this the case? (I don't want to invest in a chiller.)

    3. What are the water conditions necessary for these shrimp? I heard that they need very, very good water quality, in addition to hard water.

Could some people who have kept and bred these shrimp successfully please share their stories and experience? Perhaps post some pictures of your setups. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Cheers!
    Enda

i've heard that its not true that they survive in warm water but rather "cool" water 26-27degrees.. further more nowadays sg weather is really bad.. temperature in the noon can go to as high as 30-31 degrees and night 25-26.. which will actually do some harm to the shrimps.
easiest speicies would be montoro blue? (survive rate is much higher)

yes, sulawesi shrimps are expensive here in singapore. cheapest will be like 6/7SGD each(got mine, free). why not start with the normal RCS to gain experience.

    1. longest surviving for mine will be Harlequin/Celebes, Cardinal & blueberry bee. The rest, come & goes.

2.correct, thrive and breed at higher temperatures. dont need a chiller. keep mine in room temperature. no fan.

    3.mine like ph 7.5

but they do die for no reason. all test check. just pain in the a$^e.

my sulawesi setup, 1ft cube. sand. HOF. no plant. only various moses.yes.. do keep some sulawesi snails. recommended .cute creature but dont expect them to do cleaning in your tank. most of the time idling on the sand.

    Snail
    Snail

will try to bring back few more species once i get back from my home town.

Re: Advice on keeping sulawesi shrimp

Thanks for your advice everyone. I probably won't keep sulawesi shrimp anytime soon. Need more experience with shrimp, and given space restraints there are other things I want to work on. So many things to keep, never enough time, money or space. Ha ha...
