    what is the smallest compressor chiller available?

    Think there is a 1/20hp artica chiller. The more common ones are those 1/10hp types like resun cl 280. Might want to consider the tank volume you want to cool. Using an underpowered chiller would shorten its lifespan. Using a relatively middle range like cl280 would be able to chill up to a 3ft tank given either a high flowrate filter pump to better circulate the chiller or to modify an external thermostat.

    Cost wise, insulating the tank would also greatly reduce the chiller kick in period. Also ensuring good air ventilation around the chiller would allow better efficiency.

    Does it mean I have to Styrofoam the tank? gee, look rather unpleasing to the eyes

    I am using insulating foam for roofing behind my tank which is covered by oyama paper. However, it really depends on your ambience temperature..
