I was amazed by the number of fries. Comparing with Apistogramma, the no. of fries per spawn is more than 5 times or more. And these are not all of them. Some are swimming elsewhere. Parents are having a hard time keeping the fries within sight. This is their 2nd spawn. As for the first spawn, eggs were laid but was eaten up by the parents.

So many fries.... IF your tank is any smaller. I think the adult fish cannot swim le
At the moment, they have the whole of a 2ft tank.

Congrats on the successful spawn!!! Do keep us posted on the development and the survival rate of the fry.
Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?
reserve me a pair of the fry when they are sexable?![]()
Ya will do that. First time breeding rams so quite clueless about husbandry. I always have had problems raising fries.. Hoping that raising ram's fries are easier than raising apisto's fries.
No problem but no promises. I'm quite clueless as to when will they be sexable. Maybe 3 months time?

no hurry =) just enjoy the process of watching the fry grow and taking good care of them...it's the process, not the end result that matters![]()
I was reading around and found out that for the first few days, the fries' mouth are too small to consume bbs. They recommended microworms or daphnia. But if I'm not wrong, microworms are quite long. So do I cut them up in shorter length? Any advices? Thanks.
Wait a minute. What's the colour of microworms?

you could have a culture of infusoria. i usually make sure that there's a bunch of moss in my breeding tanks. i've read that infusoria grows and congregate on moss clumps, and the fry can feed on them there. so far i've had pretty good experience with fry progressing on to eat decapsulated brine shrimp eggs after a few days so this method should work
Thanks. But is it too late now to throw in moss? Anyway, I just did it.

if your moss has been growing healthily somewhere else and you grabbed it and threw it in, it should worki tied some moss bought from colourful a day before the fry became free swimming and the fry are now 2+ weeks old and happy

Is there any major differences in a Tank setup for apisto and a one compared with Rams?
Can to tell us where you get your nice pair of Rams from? Thanks

Ok. Thanks illumnae. Grab a bunch of moss from another tank. Should work then.
Hi mavarick,
My tank setup for rams and apistos are similiar. 2ft tank with Eheim liberty filter and ADA amazonia aquasoil. pH around 6.7. No tuning done. Maybe the only difference with regards to my apisto tank setup, is the addition of peat and blackwater to induce spawning.
Got my rams from C328.

Thanks bro. I also read from online resources that Rams are good community fishes. But if I put more than a pair of Rams together will they fight like Apistos?

you'll have to remove the rest when 1 pair spawns
