are you referring to liquid carbon like Seachem Exel or Easy carbon? Activated carbon is used to remove medication and odour in the tank.

I honestly think they are all about the same, although Exel and Easy Carbon are the 2 more popular ones

Easy Carbon = EasyLife EasyCarbo? I'm using that too. So far so good.

if not mistaken EasyLife EasyCarbo is more expensive than seachem excel

Why not go with a CO2 tank instead of using synthetic carbon?

He want to do low tech tank![]()

Great help from bros here~
will drop by LFS to get the seachem one since on a budget here
anw...is there a good brand of light timer?and what is the price?or can i just can a brandless 1?![]()

Just a question, will liquid carbon escape with exposure to air like CO2 does?

no, it will not. It is not a gas form
EasyLife EasyCarbo is more concentrated.![]()

A new product as alternative would be Azoo carbon+.
Has anyone seen any in Singapore this far?

I never seen that.

Hi there "Shadow"
U seemed 'Da Man' on planted tanks and though i posted this in another thread ( hav yet to recd a response) , I thought that i might seek yr help on a current predicatment I have;
It goes like this;
".......I am shutting down one of my marine tank when my chiller packed up and died.
Set up is a 3ft by 2ft and with a sump. Re-using all the current fixtures, like return pump, lights and timer.
Here's what I gather reading frm this forum.
Soil to use will either be ADA or Gex and since we are both on a sump, CO2 lost seems a big factor...so lotsa of dosing or maybe go for a liquid base C02 source like Sechem Excel (where, correct me if I am wrong, it isnt too effected by the "water agitation caused by the sump" and helps keep the C02 at a constant level (of course with regular dosing)... Don't get me wrong, I would have gone with the cylinder, except that wastage seems high...so if we are sump-driven ( for our filtration), then perhaps Excel seemed a better choice...Can some1 confirm this?
Heard from a LFS guy that planted tanks CANNOT use sump....and he was adament about it.
As fr the "soil", can we use just ADA ? must we have a layer of covering sand or even Base Fert?
As for the livestock, as tank size is not that big, I am going for just the basic that is found on most LFS with a slight emphasis on the redder hue of leaves ( as I find an all green set-up a tad too boring) ...guess its the Marine Guy in me.
As for the fishes, am likely going with the Wild American Guppies ( great coloration) and its relatively small size is a plus, as it doesn't create a misbalance and some tetras thrown if fr some variety....of course what's a tank without those stripped reddish shrimps as well.
Am I (or we) on the right track??...setting up the tank next week, after cycling the tank to remove any unwanted salt residue
Txs all
BTW since I have a sump, shall or can i use the filter wool, ceramic chips, bios balls etc etc as media? or just pack it with foam? ......."

Correction I'm also beginner, just learning from each other
I seen Plated tank with sump tank before, so yes do able. Even Amano big-big tank also use sump tank. CO2 might be lost, I'm not sure about the lost rate but CO2 is cheap, just inject more. I believe it is more economical to inject more/excess CO2 than using Seachem excel. 5L CO2 top up cost you $16 which will last one year (normal injection) compare to excel 500ml cost you $14. Furthermore, concentration of excel can kill some plants like Vallisneria. For this I would recommend to get drop checker, it will tell you the CO2 gas concentration in the water.
ADA usually used by itself or with powersand (some kind of base fert but not exactly it). Layer of sand can be use for aesthetic purpose, for example create a road path. Do not use sand on top of ADA soil, some say it will compact the ADA soil. True or not does not matter it does not serve any purpose anyway. If you want to save some soil, because normally we have very high slope to create depth, you can add rock underneath or even brick. CAU people will put lapis sand in the stocking. For me I use hydroponic clay.
Other than that, happy planting
by the way, you might want to create you own thread, more people will reply you. Luckily I have not remove the subscription of this thread otherwise I wont be able to reply you.

Txs Bro....spoken like a Thru Pro...
didnt want to open a new thread, as most of the Qs raised seemed to manifest itself in many other threads,,,dont want to get flamed ;(
fr the sump...can i use ceramic rings and bio balls.?..or no need, like to grow my coleny of bacteria ....or its just a waste of time and $$
Where's the best one-stop place to stock up fr parts; ie ADA, Cylinder, valve w salenoid, plants and fish...Seletar Farmway seemed packed on weekends and the guy (andy?) seemed like a nice easy going guy...but plants seemed on the ex side (might be wrong), But GREAT selection...was at Thomson (opp Hospital) real atas place, but the guy there was not so forthcoming...the shop nxt door seemed alot more friendlier
anything that i am missing here? Needle valve, Bubble checker (?) C02 reactor (wats the best type) etc etc
setting time thsi weekend to purcahse all my "parts" and get craking on my tank...no fish (yet) of course
WEll Txs fr all the help so far

Yes you can use ceramic rings and bioballs (medium), some people even use those net thing for washing dishes (cheapest). Some use biohome or biohome plus (expensive). Just give you rough idea, there is no hard rule for this. The idea is you need large surface area for bacteria to colony but since you are using sump tank, you are not area limited, you have more flexibility than most of us.
For equipment, I usually go to Nature Aquarium (NA) and Clementi florist and aquarium (C328 ). NA owner (Mr Chan) quite friendly, you ask question on hardware stuff. He is quite knowledgeable in this area but the lady is not. Farmway is too far for me so never visit.
I DIY my own CO2 reactor, I would stay away from internal reactor, it is an eyesore, blocking light and take up tank space.
