Hi all, this is my maiden attempt on a low tech tank set up last night. Please feel free to comment and any advice would be appreciated.

The specification for the tank is:
    1. Tank size : 45cm X 30cm X 30cm
    2. Lighting : 13W PL tube, planning to on it for 8 hours daily
    3. Filter : Hang on filter with white filter wool and bio ring
    4. Temperature : 29 degrees without fan but planning to use a fan that will be on together with the light
    5. Substrate : Black quartz sand with no base fertiliser. Bought root fertiliser for the crypts.
    6. No CO2
    7. No liquid fertiliser added so far, do I need to dose liquid fertiliser? When should I start dosing?
    8. The water parameters are as follow: KH - 4, PH - 7.6, GH - very high (more than 22). The samples are taken this morning, without lights on for the whole night. Are these figures normal for such situation?
What should I do next? Just let the filter run-in? and for how long before I can add algae eaters and fishes?

a week or two should be good... filter run in and plants established... if you wanna rush then add in bio bacteria to the tank and shorten the cycling period...

Roger. Thanks for the tip. Its been a week now and I've just added 5 yamato shrimps and 2 oto. Ph still around 7.2, lowered from 7.6 after 2 water change. Do I just leave it or must I do something to bring it down somemore? What is the ideal ph?
