Hello all, I'm a semi-retired person that just moved to Brazil from the U.S. I'm very interested in nature and photography and hope to develop those interests more here in the northeast of Brazil. In particular, I enjoy spending a lot of time in the semi-arid caatinga but all biomes interest me. I like to be part of restoration/conservation projects and have a history (since the 1970s) of doing just that, working with groups such as Nature Conservancy, Trout Unlimited, and just plain ol' folk looking to improve land they own or conservation areas where these folks operate as land stewards. I'm eternally curious about nature and never afraid to be involved in work that leads to improved natural conditions. I might not be as agile as I once was but still willing to put out effort for good causes. I'm hoping to learn more about small tropical fishes in these forums because I'm new to the tropics and don't see [yet] a whole lot of interest in improving/conserving freshwater conditions in the N.E. of Brazil (I'm sure folks are out there but I haven't yet met up with them). In some of my travels into the semi-arid I've seen some very interesting small streams that apparently support small fish. I'm very curious about these and am currently looking for some useful tips on doing field photography (catch/foto/release) for identification purposes. I see that there are other fish photography forums and will take suggestions for where to find useful tips for field photography (not looking for gadgetry but tips/tricks for best shots). Hope to hear from other in the N.E. of Brazil and folks with good/cheap tricks for field photography of small freshwater fishes. THX Matthew Berigan Campina Grande, Paraiba mberigan at berigan.com

Re: Intro for Matthew in Paraiba Brazil

    Hi Matthew, welcome to AQ.

There are a number of members here who had some experience with photographing fishes in the field. e.g. they would typically find a large leave on which the fish can be placed and a quick shot taken.

A lot of us live in Southeast Asia (Singapore mostly) and we would really love to see field photographs of Brazilian habitat, flora and fauna.

Hope you enjoy your stay here.
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.
