Rare Betta

Hi all, anyone know what is the name of this fish below. I only know it's belong to Betta family. Never see this in S'pore.

This is Betta macrostoma. The picture shows a male. Females do not have this intense red / orange colour. It is occassionally available at lfs like Biotope or C328, usually priced at around $200 a pair. It is a difficult fish to keep, and should be bred because it is increasingly rare in the wild.

I don't have any experience with this fish, but there are many on this forum who do. Post up your queries in the Anabantoids sub-forum if you want to find out more.

That's a betta macrostoma... Last time often can see at Lfs but maybe due to their popularity dropping.. They seldom come in..
And they come with a heavy price tag...!

Thanks for the info. Seem like it is a difficult fish to keep and price for a pair is . I am wondering if anyone keep it in planted tank

in singapore plenty of macrostomas breeders. You just have to ask around.
This betta is easily available in singapore, it is just the price.

Saw a male in C328 last night. The colouration is abit difference but the finage is the same. The price is $120 for a pcs......

Yes , i've seen them personnally with my own eyes and i started falling in love with them but the price and the hardness of these fishes are too much for me to handle ... Lolx ... What i heard for my boss is that they are extreamly hard to breed as they need super private place ( undisturb ) and a sudden drop of tempreture and PH value then they will start breeding .... He never got them right at the end and gave up thinking about it ... Ahaha .... If i'm not wrong , he got these at SGD300.00 per pair ( exculding posting charges ) ... OMG ~~

Have you seen his collections before ? Currently mostly are all gone ... He aint having the time to take care of them anymore .... so might want to share his proud history with all of you ....

I met some guy from LFS telling me that the female is very weak, the survival rate of the female are very low. Therefore, we only see mostly male around.... I am not sure

Look at the first picture i posted .... You can see a glimspe of the female there .... I remember my boss had 3 females if i'm not wrong ... they are doing in his tank though .... He likes the colourations of the male , thats why pictures are mostly his males .... Lolx ....
