Hi guys.... I just setup a 5' fish planted. my idea was to have a bit of undergrowth... So i hope u guys can give me some idea of plants that i sld have.... When i setup i was quite anxious... and did not pay much attention to substrate.... i uses inert black sand, and i put the fertilizer tablet into the sands.... i have co2 but the moss on my DW seems like abit of "seh kor" aft i on the light for 8 hr this morning b4 i setup my co2. i bought a thermometer and it says the temp is 30. might get a digital 1 tml...

Kindly guide me along.... Thank you....cheers.....

Moss tends to rot for new tanks and may demand cooler waters. My weeping mosses turned brown initially but came back after 1 week later after I trimmed away the brown parts. Now started growing nicely. I'm using 6 hours of 2x150w MH and chiller at 25 deg.

its not a must to have a chiller, you could use fans to lower the temperature but some plants thrive better in cooler environments

    hope this helps

    Bro cullen,

Inert black sand should be fine if you insert root tablets.
I used to have inert substrate too before switching to GEX.
Moss definitely needs a lower temperature than 30C, 28C should be fine.
You can use fans to lower the temperature though I'm not sure how many you will need for a 5-footer.
At most, fans can only bring the temperature down by 2C.

If your tank is 5-footer, i suggest getting a chiller is better. Tanks with cover tends to trap more heat that normal.
