Java moss and shrimp

Hi everyone, how long does java moss take to cover and spread a driftwood.I have 4.5 watt/g and have co2 ,27 C ,as java moss r low light plant i place the floating plants that sky devil gave me (thanks a lot) above that piece of wood.
Some dirt r settling on the moss and caught between do ur think malayan shrip or any shrimp would clear these dirt.

Malayan shrimps worked for me. My only complaint is that some hair algae is still visible under the top-most layer of my moss/

While moss is a low-light plant, it seems ok to have a bt more light on it. i'm exposing my xmass moss directly under 2x36W (2ft tank so it's 4W/gal) and it finally gave me the triangular fronds i wanted after 2+ mths. It only started to show signs of growth after the 1 mth mark. I'm not sure what triggered the growth but i did the following at ard that time :

1. added 2x DC fans (temp dropped from 29C to 27C).
2. added 20x Malayan Shrimps (had only 10 in my tank before that).

I wouldn't say java moss is a low light plant, its able to grow in most conditions. I've always grow them under direct bright light and they did best with CO2 injected as well, how liquid fert helps i am not too sure.

Under dim light, it seems to grow much slower, not as compact and sometimes browned and die away when it gets too dim or no light.

I've tried growing a few strand spreaded out evenly with no overlapping over a 1ft driftwood, 2mths later, its real thick. You should see growth in 1 week or less and more for it to spread.

Did you grow it submersed or emersed?
I tried growing java moss once, but it never did attach to the wood.

submerged of course... it will take longer for java moss to attach to the wood while submerged.. visible growth doesnt mean it has attached to it.. 1 month should be safe enough...

anyway, to maintain javamoss, i take the whole branch or piece of driftwood out and rinse it under running water... they are really like hair grown to the head...

So far my tanks are very well litted. Probably why they dun do very well although with low temperatures.

lots of liquid fert thats what i did to my xmass moss under 7.2w/g of light =) temp 24

sherchoo, u mean ya javamoss dun grow well under bright light?

Mine temp was ard 28C, java moss still ok, just that they are not as branchy compared to those in my office tank, 26C. Not sure if the SAEs contributes to some of the botakness.

was trying out but it seems that they do thrive under high light but have to clear tons of algae =) Moss grew fast but got to fight with algae thats not my worries.

It's quite clear that the moss that exposed to direct light died of (also attacked by BBA) while those in shaded lived and grew nicely.

direct light died off...hmm interesting why ain't my moss dead or attack by BBA, sherwin maybe you can clear my doubts..

Not sure about BBA with java moss. When my tank was plagued by BBA, basically the all the plants was infested, except, yes, javamoss. Strange tho.

Well, for my case, first discovered BBA on java moss some two years ago...so you can imagine....

Anyway, speaking of low temp...my new office 1 ft cube would have moss. Tank temp is around 24~25 degree...

I recall that java moss like fast flowing, cold water. Can anyone confirm this?

all my plants seem to be free of bba except my moss....[] tried using shrimp,sae,cigar fish,control fert regime,frequent water changes,cuttting away infected parts,etc...all to no avail...[] []

i overlap A little will they continue growing i remove some floating plant from that spot . 1 month rite to grow would wait.How much shrimp should i add To my one feet cube tank currently no fish

my moss is growing directly under MH light. fast circulation around it.
no visible algae.
took only less than a month
