Since your tank is low tech, I'll assume you don't have chiller.
CRS don't survive well in our hot climate and need cool temperature to thrive and breed.

I m planning to start up a 1' CRS low tech planted tank as my friend is going to give me 5pcs of CRS (not sure what is the grade).
I will like to check with shrimp expert bros here to advise:
1. What is filter you usually use, overflow, external or internal?
2. Shrimp do well in strong or slow flow rate?
3. Plant suitable for shrimp.... normal see people using Java moss
4. Do your tank has graval or bare tank?
Thanks.![]()

most use soil either GEX Red or Green pack, or some variety of ADA soil for the base. It helps to keep the pH low.
a 1 foot tank is going to be really hard to maintain stably. You might want to seriously consider going with a 2 foot.
A chiller is highly recommended, if not at least use a fan to keep the temperature as below 28C (and preferably 24-26C) at all times and locate the tank in the coolest part of the house / office.
overflow is not necessary especially in a 1 to 2 ft tank. External filter with good flow is recommended. (900L/hr if you intend to use a chiller, can get away with 600L/hr in a 2ft otherwise)
Buy a better quality canister filter, or you will most likely end up changing to one later, and spending more overall.

Hi bros, thanks for the advices. So assume, CRS do well in low pH?
My friend was breeding them in his study room, temp measured about 26~27deg. He do not have a fan on it. He is using a eheim internal filter with flow rate of 600l/h in a 2ft.
I am looking to see if a 1ft tank is achieveable......given my internal filter is 400l/h and intend to use medium size gravel.....![]()
26-27 degree can breed crs? thats suprising man,i have my 2ft tank in my study room as well temp 26degree but crs not breeding.
