No.... There's another shelving unit that looks like ivar (can't remember the name) but can hold much heavier weight. Get that one. Do take note that ikea products use just enough materials to serve whatever functions a product is made for and mis-use with regards to what it's intended for will lead to faster spoilage of the product.

thanks. that shelving unit also from ikea? i see the other ikea shelves all not deep enough only ivar has got a 50cm depth.

anyone has got a heavy duty shelving unit that looks nice to recommend? metal or wood but not those warehouse looking type because its for my room.

    thanks

You might want to consider racking instead? A 2x1x1 will likely weigh over 60kg for the tank and water alone, substrate weight and additional equipment, accessories, livestock etc will push it even higher.

It would be advisable to overspec the shelving to be on the safe side, you _really_ don't want to come home to a shelf and fish tank that fell off the wall one day...
I would say buffer at least 50% of the weight in. So you'd be looking at a 90kg loading shelf or higher.

I have not seen any affordable shelving (especially after installation in factored in) that can bear a 60kg - 90kg load, not from Ikea at least.

Most of the shelving in that load bearing class is probably for industrial applications, so it will probably not look nice.

If you really must use a shelf, maybe consider a smaller tank?

I don't recomend Ikea shelf for fish tank.
    1. The shelf is not strong enough (They using saw dust)
    2. The shelf is not water resistance.

When time go by, you will see the shelf will bend towards the center. Very dangerous..

I had these and I do not recommend it for heavy stuff. You might want to look at these.

Max weight at 65kg per shelf. Use at your own risk.

I think this would be a better choice. I have one done up for 2 1ft tank for my shellies. I believe this is a suitable choice. I used to have a quite a many tank in one of these tanks.

oh.. i think bro aquarius refering to GORM. didnt know ikea had a stronger version of IVAR but maximum weight only 50kg, i think i better play safe and not use. but really like the look of that shelf.

I searched for metal rack and found this. http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/nav...=5&item=388805. i know i have seen these in singapore. looks pretty decent for a room. anyone knows where to buy this rack?

    thanks guys!

I saw this in Bukit Merah NTUC. But is a 3 tier version. I am not sure of the price.

Always check how much weight these rack can handle. Most looks the same from one another but their strength may differ. Also do not assume weight per shelf and weight per rack as the same thing.

I wonder why you guys dont want to get a 'real tank' stand instead of all those? As the sizes of those you've shown from IKEA looks exactly like one...is it more expensive in Singapore? Why not try JB? I know they are selling detachable ones...price for 3ft only cost about RM90. So, if you guys are talking about 2ft or 1ft...way less....

I would not use IKea shelving product to be used as aquarium stand. They are not stable and primarily was not designed to hold such heavy load.
