Your shrimplets will feed on algae in your tank, they don't need special food till they are a week old or two, then they will start to take shrimp food like the adult.
hey
i see tiny shrimps in my tank now (cherry) around 3 mm long, so i was just wondering do they need any special food?
my 2.5 gallon planted tank is up for 2 months, but i changed the gravel around a month back. currently have 1 amano, 1 malayan and 1 cherry.
and 2 otos

mosura bioplus if you want
you only got 1 amano, 1 malayan and 1 cherry. and yet you have baby shrimps. Does that mean they cross breed?
his shrimps could be holding eggs when he got them
No special care needed as they feed on the mirco-organism in the tank however if u wan u can try Mosura Bioplus, they are alternate food to adult shrimps and baby shrimps too!
cherry will crossbreed with malayan but i am not sure about amano but if ur amano happens to be pregnant most probably the larvae would not survive as they need salt water.
If you have a matured tank and your bioload is low there will be enough microorganisms to feed your Cherry shrimplets.
Btw Malayan Shrimp is a Caridina and Cherry Shrimp is a Neocaridina so no chance they will crossbreed![]()
thanks all! my cherry was pregnant when i got her =) i bought 3 together, but the other two died! =(
some of the babies have already moulted for the first time
haven't seen my amano in a few days. don't know where it is
PS: i'm a girl! a girl called shane! haha
here's the tank!
2.5 Gallons.

nice tank you have, why dun you change to gex soil as you might have difficulty cleaning the gravels.
hey there
i just used gravel because i first intended for it to be a fish based tank. then i got obsessed with shrimps. haha
but if i use Gex i'll have to re-cycle the whole tank again don't i?
the cherry whose kids were just born a week ago has already shown her yellow ovary patch again under her neck plate. so i guess they are quite happy![]()
For the kind of shrimps you are keeping gravel is fine. Switch to soil substrate if you decide to venture into Crystal Red Shrimp![]()
thanks aria!
only thing that bothers me is that my amano has been missing for around 4 days.
usually it will perch on the wood and move around alot, cleaning the wood and filter etc.
i hope its just molting or something
update!
stuck on black backdrop.
if you want to use gex soil you can use water in ur current tank and transfer over. in my experience, the gravel will turn dirty over the next few months .
thats true. i think i'll have to wait until at least when this batch of shrimplets are grown before i reconsider.
by the way,
what fishes are safe for shrimplets?
i took my betta out (cause it attacks my cherry)
and took my zebra danios out (cause they will probably eat my shrimplets won't they)
If breeding shrimps is your main objective, I suggest no fish at all in the tank. Shrimplets when born are the size of daphnia, food for even the smallest fish.
If you really want fish, the safest bet would be the oto catfish and others in the pleco family. You can't find a worse mouth design for hunting moving prey then theirs.
haha thanks! i have 2 otos in my tank already. so i guess i'm more or less there. =)
just that the tank looks really empty, but thats probably because i only have 2 adult shrimps in my tank (my amano is SERIOUSLY missing for a week now i assume its dead and eaten -sad-) and a bunch of shrimplets.
probably will get better when they all grow up =D
they are all doing fine so far, already started to explore their home
congrats.
Once the first batch hatched, second and third batch of shrimplets will come soon and ultimately your tank will boomed with cherry shrimps.
