Bought a bag of Tigers last week to test the water of my new tank and they turn out to be bluish.

One week on they are still light blue. Does anyone else have Blue / Bluish Tigers? If so please share your pictures

    Here's a picture of mine

    Re: Light Blue Tigers

Are you referring to this? Golden-eyed Blue Tiger.
A blue tiger would look something similar except black eyes.

Nice Dark Blue Tiger bro. And pregnant some more. Congrats

Haha mine are not the branded ones but the 1 for $1 type

The Tiger pictures I usually see are transparent with brown stripes so I'm surprised to find that mine are light blue.

Just wondering if light blue is common and whether others have also. Thanks

    Hi Aria,

The tiger shrimps that most LFS are selling are those transparent body, the stripes are usually black, some have white outline on the black stripes. Some of the tiger shrimps may appear a bit orange or light blue in colour.

    Re: Light Blue Tigers

To bring out the normal light blue tiger to a nice blue, you have to do selective breeding for many rounds.

Sometimes, tiger can turn to deep blue due to great stress and revert to normal color once they have settled down. In fact, many shrimps did show that especially for those light brownish type of shrimps.

    Happy keeping.

    Hi Aria,

I have bluish tiger like yours which are wildcaught offsprings. They have black or magenta stripes and dark eyes. They may be even dark blue. The blue tiger orange eye are real beauties too. I'll post pics when I am at home.

What pH and temp are you keeping your Golden Eye Blue which is obviously successfully?

I wonder if the blusish tinge passed on to their offsprings. Also beautiful red antenaes is it due to good nutrition or are they genetic?

Btw had a glance at your blog - good info Will go back to read more when I have the time

Yup I'm with you on that beetroot. More than 2 weeks on they are as voracious as ever and still blue Wow green would be interesting to see!

Hey imke that Yellow Tiger is simply stunning! Thanks for sharing

I wonder if the colour is due to early environmental conditioning or genetics.

Have you tried to breed them imke?

    Re: Light Blue Tigers

I think it's both: a genetic disposition and environmental conditions like water parameter or colour of the ground level. The yellow shrimp on the pic was a female which unfourtunately died a few weeks ago. I put it from black to brown soil to test the colour variation - but it was orange-yellow anyway (see pic attached). Males are less colored but in general; but the red one above is male.

I havn't bred them yet because I am occupied with other 'projects'. But it is definately worth a try I guess!

Hey that's interesting. Yup with all those gorgeous colours you're getting may be a good idea to see if you could breed out yellow and red Tigers

I haven't had a chance to experiment with my Tigers yet but my experience with my green shrimp has let me to believe that pH plays a large part in colour. I normally house them in pH 7.5 and they are consistently green. However I placed a few of them in pH 6.5 for a week and they all turned dark brown. Put them back at pH 7.5 and they are green again

What beautiful shrimps thanks for sharing

I'm surprised at the variety of colours.

Its interesting that not a lot of people 'play' with Tigers to breed out different colours as much as they do with the neocaridinas.

Well at least for me the limiting factor would be Tiger's requirement for chiller to breed. Imagine having a few tanks of Tigers in different brilliant colours

    Re: Light Blue Tigers

I find Tigers to be voracious eaters they make a great clean up crew that's for sure

A result of that is they were growing and berrying in no time. I've heard that Tigers do not berry easily but that hasn't been the case for me. I suppose it boils down to water parameters
