Both the Discus are stunted, I do not know the reason why too. They are not growing well in my tank as compare to the AA.

My low tech non CO2 tank has been around for 3mths plus but all the crypts and java ferns don't seem to be growing bushy despite weekly dosing of macro and micro ferts. Very frustrating!
They took very long period to adapt to this tank, the crypt melts like crazy. Only recently they start to grow well. I did dose 3 teaspoon of potassium sulphate every water change. Maybe it helps.

Look at the narrow leaf fern, most of them turn black. suspect the water temp causes it. Maybe some expert can advice.

Actually keeping dicus in a planted tank is very challanging cos they not only need to eat quite alot but they also need very high protein food which can be very very difficult to balance without causing algae problems.

I seem to be having the same problems with my java ferns as you. Don't think it's the temp cos i used to run my CO2 tank with 28 - 29c and they were growing very well without the black spots on the leaves. I only have this black spot problem now which is in a non CO2 tank.

Seem like nutrient deficiency is the cause.
