Usually, I will manually use a water dropper to push them off the wall they sticks to and suck up at once. Another way is to use a 2cm³ sponge to scrub the walls before water change.
NEVER use any chemical to kill them, it will kill your shrimps too.

Good Luck and Have a Great Day.

this may help here , here and here

i encountered hydras years back here. i was advised to use H2O2 or vinegar to treat it, dosing salt as hydras is made up mainly of water and osmosis process kills them, increasing temperature, manual removal and some others i cant remember.

in the end i chose the most primitive method......

    i tore down my tank...
pls correct me if i'm wrong

I once had a huge hydra bloom that killed off most of my shrimplets. But I realised that they loved to attach themselves to plants so I threw in some frogbits and those that come with the shrimps in the bags when you buy them. The very next day all the hydras were happily on the leaves and I simply removed the plants. Left one or two which I easily crushed. Now I'm hydra-free!

You can use a drop of copper sulfate. It won't affect fish or plants but I'm not sure about shrimps.

I got rid my hydra years back with a puffer fish. Either ways are more practical.

I would not recommend doing this in _any_ shrimp tank, and especially not a CRS tank...

Copper will kill all after a few days if over dose so please be carefully when using it. can be fast or slow reaction. If over dose, the tank or all the soil cannot be use at all. That mean throw away. I did it a few year back so i throw every thing away. Even if u wash and wash the tank is of no use. I think u better kill one by one. maximum 10 living in the tank. It actually come from buy back plant or live food so please not where u get your plant and live food
Treat your fishes like your baby. The sign and symptom is the same but cannot talk.

Re: How to kill HYDRA in tank...

I, too, suddenly discovered some hydra in my tank last week! Never had them before.

Initially only saw two... then another day, saw quite many attached to a ketapang leaf that I had left in the tank. So I agree with seanskye's method... they like to attach themselves to floating plants. So i quickly threw the leaf away. Of course you'll still have a few odd ones left in the tank somewhere..... Need a good eye to spot them, haha, especially the small tiny ones. I spotted a few odd ones on floating hornwort, and even on nana leaf.

And I happened to see one floating in mid water and the galaxy gulp it down .

You can use Vermex with good effect. Just drop a couple of drops into a cup. Stir well and use a syringe to target spray the hydra. Works well for me in my shrimp tanks[ It's a 5 x 1.5 x 2.5 tank] . Remember to aerate and do not overdose, learned it the hard way. The hydra would return in a couple of weeks. Vacuum the surface of the gravel/soil more often too if it's persistent. Hope this helps. As for the hitch hiking with live food, just dump the food into a jar/container and let it sit for 10 - 15 minutes. If there's hydra, it'll attach itself to the wall/surface of the container, I do this all the time. Best of luck guys
