Hi everyone, I have been using EI method for a month now and I have been getting very good results. However, recently, I went on a trip and had my neighbour feed the fish for me. She apparently overfed the fish and with this I saw green spot algae on the glass when I have not seen them before. Is this caused by the over feeding? And I also saw GSA on my bogwood even before this overfeeding episode. I was thinking could it be that my phosphate dosing is not enough? I have a 50 gallon tank. and this is my dosing regime.

Day 1: 10ml Trace 5ml iron (all seachem)
    Day 2: 1/2 teaspoon KNO3, 1/8 teaspoon KH2PO4
Day 3: 10ml Trace 5ml iron (all seachem)
    Day 4: 1/2 teaspoon KNO3, 1/8 teaspoon KH2PO4
Day 5: 10ml Trace 5ml iron (all seachem)
    Day 6: 1/2 teaspoon KNO3, 1/8 teaspoon KH2PO4
    Day 7: 50% water change

    My question is,

    1. I am thinking of increasing KH2PO4 to 1/4 teaspoon is this advisable?

    2. Should I include potassium sulphate in the regime? Thanks.

I think just leave as it is. Back to your style of feeding. Let see how it goes.

I am also thinking of increasing the phosphate cause I heard that phosphate would increase the growth of hairgrass. My Jap hairgrass is growing really slowly.

Be careful with phosphate. I found 2 of my hardy yamato shrimps died the next morning after adding 1/2 teaspoon KH2PO4 following water change for my 300l tank. However, if I add 1/4 teaspoon each in 2 seperate dosage, everything is fine.
