    Anyone knows what this soil is for? its somewhat like reddish clay. thanks

    Those are "lava rock" kind of substrate. It's extremely porous and allows bacteria to colonize. In practice, think of it as something like ADA power sand under the substrate

    What about its mineral content? Can it be used as powersand substitute?

    by itself no, but if you add some crushed peat and some kno3 it'll probably be more or less identical to powersand give or take abit

    Hmm i'am going to rojak the soil with some base fert and top it up with spare gex soil to give it a try on a 1.5ft tank and see how it goes thanks for advise!
