His diet consists mainly of JBL or was it JBJ sinking pellets. Frozen bloodworms for a treat 2-3 times a week.

    Re: Apistogramma bitaeniata

Seems like their colours changes when they grow older...? Or is it camera tricks? The setting all that.. First pics the fish seems like light purple blue, 2nd one more original natural.. But again it's really great pics taken.!

    Re: Apistogramma bitaeniata

Canon 350D with 100mm macro lens. I noticed this, as bitaeniata grows older, the red trimmings on the body just below the dorsal fin will become more red towards maroon color.

    See for example
    Matured male

    Juvenile male

    Re: Apistogramma bitaeniata

You can. This piece of bitaeniata "mamuri" is the F1 of a pair hand carried in from HK 2 years ago. Same theory applies, if you pay peanuts you get peanuts. So if you guys are willing to pay at a premium for good looking parents, there will be a certain percentage of fries that will inhibit that superior quality.

Yixiang, the last wild shipment by Biotope had at least 3 males with such intense yellow on all the fins. And it was much cheaper then my hand carried pair then.

    Re: Apistogramma bitaeniata

Haha, I've always been willing to pay a premium for fish that I really want

I haven't been down to biotope much since they moved to AMK sadly...not convenient for me to travel there. By the time I actually got down, only 1 piece with such colouration was left and it wasn't looking too healthy. Since that shipment nothing new has come in right?

    Re: Apistogramma bitaeniata

Genes: I think taking great pics of fish need very good cameras.. Lighting also play a very important part other than lens... Is it possible to use normal digital camera with 10mp and 4x optical zoom to get this kind of standard?

Yixiang: I'll dropby biotope and have a look... Very long time never go find uncle la kopi. Will update you with any new stocks dude..

Clint: what time will you normally be there? Maybe find you chit chat...

    Re: Apistogramma bitaeniata

I know what benny will say to you if you post your comments to him. He will tell you, its not the camera, its the person behind the camera. Even a point and shoot camera can take good pictures.

This is taken from a canon powershoot under macro mode without using flash.

And taken by a handphone sony ericsson P990i
