frequent kick in normally due to slow flow rate. what is the flowrate use used?
my tank setup is a 3ftx1.5 , my digital dymax thermomether shows 26 degrees , both chiller and those cheap gex $1 analog thermometer shows 28 degrees.
i set my chiller to 27 degress ...but it seems to kick in every 5 mins for about 5 mins ...and pause for 5 mins ...and the cycle continue
i place my outlet of chiller on the left of the tank ...intake is a RIO 10 pump on the right side

Hi: I experienced the same when using a CL-280 in a four footer. As Shadow points out, the flow rate is likely to be too slow. Although there should be a safe limit, I remember I ended up using a 6,000 LPH pump (I had no flow meter at the time) with a CL-650.
What pump/powerhead are you using?
I would begin with 1,500 LPH but aim at 2,000 to 3,000 LPH and monitor the on/off cycles. Once you reach sustained on for 40 minutes or so with time off of say 20 minutes, you are likely close to efficient use of your chiller. Keep in mind that there's quite loss due to friction and head pressure (height).
Expect a big raise in your energy bill if you don't address this problem soon. I'm telling you this based on my personal experience.

im using a RIO 10 2700l/hr but i reduce the flow rate
last night tried for a while to increase max rate to max...now it seems the chiller runs for a longer time ...didn't manage to catch the shut down time though ..
updates : tried full flow 2700l/hr but still it kicks in every 5mins...is it playing around with the flow rate will help ?

please help urgent ? dunt want to receive a 1k PUB bill
Few questions on your chiller>
- is it brand new?
- is there external thermostat addon
- any source of heat to tank
Could be due to faulty internal thermostat
For a 3 ft tank water volume, even if you preset 2 degrees below ambient, it will take a long time to warm due to large volume of water
1)no its not bought from a bro here
2)no external add on
3) errmm the rio 10 pump that is used to power the chiller is submerged
Setting your chiller at 27, by right it should reach 29 before kicking in again for resun models.
When your chiller kick in at 28 to 27, perhaps the temp diff is too small or that there could be inaccurate calibration. I still feel that theres something wrong with the thermostat. Unless the 50 gal or so water heats up 2 degrees in 5mins?Using metal halide perhaps?
Just a suggestion, try setting your chiller setting to 25, since your ambient is 28, see how your chiller reacts. Should take up to around half an hour or so. Since your Flowrate is high, Should not stop in 5mins for cl450. If prob persists, can try modifying the chiller by adding on an external thermostat. Hope this helps
thanks will experiment with flow rate ...im not using Metal halides...using PL 39x2 only
does running OHF cause the lost in cool water ?
