Hello,
I just bbrought back 10 Yamatos into my tank yesterday night. This evening when I came back from work, I saw that my foreground sand has got lots of waste which I presumed is from these Yamatos. Is this normal? I didn't know shrimps could give out so much waste. It is especially obvious as there is no plant for the front of my scape. Can anybody sugegst what I should do? I am using fine light coloured sand so it is really very obvious. Can I like use a wavemaker to push the waste into the back etc? Please any suggestion.

Since your foreground is empty you may want to plant some carpet plants, hair grass maybe or moss or maybe mini nanas? think either type will enable you to cover the poo abit i guess
I don't think the wave make will clear the poo to suit your eye as well cause your base substrate is fine coloured sand and it will still be visible to your eye even if the poo is pushed elsewhere.
just thinking plants may be of help to you.
i'm no expert but just a suggestion to you though![]()

But I purposely left the front part bare for corydoras later. I went to a LFS and I got a weird answer just now. The LFS uses the same sand and I asked the owne why his doesn't have poo and he said cause the small fishes poo is light and the filter would suck them in. I asked how come mine not sucked in he asked what I have and after hearing he said Yamato's poo is heavier that's why never float and sucked up. So it may be Yamato after all!!
Hahah, what goes in MUST come out!
Poo is good, that means your yamato is healthy and doing their job!
Bacteria will take care of them, just be patient.
As in the bacteria will work fast enough that the poo will disappear as soon as it's pooed out?![]()
Hell no ! Haha ...
Normally the poo-s will be gone in 2-3 days if your filter is mature enough.
But then there will be new poos constantly what![]()
Have no fear. That is called ecosystem.![]()
Hahahah! I was thinking if I should install a small wave maker to shoot against the poo to move it to the back where the plants are. Haha.
i don't think that is necessary ... if you really mind the black poo, you can try black sand or something for gravel =)
But I have a friend who uses the same sand and he has way lots more fish yet zero poo!
