understand that its common in singapore LFS its selling this surface skimmer , but i'm looking for smaller version for my nano 1 footer which requires shorter pipe.
I have an internal filter in my 2ft tank which had the oily film. Since I made the internal filter to blow bubbles, the oil film is gone.
By the way how to use the surface skimmer shown here? is it attached to an air pump??
That thing is attach to your canister intake. It wont work for HOB filters.
It is so clunky for smaller tanks.
Here is the Eheim Brand.

Hi,
Here's what I do. Take a piece of newspaper, tare it half and place it nice and flat on the water surface than pull up the newspaper from the center. That's it. Quick and easy. All oil and even some floating debris will be cleared.
Of course you can use paper tower, but I felt newspaper easier because 1 pcs fit nice nice over my 2ft tank (and it's free!).
Surface skimmer looks really ugly in the tank.
I use this paper towel.

Yes skimmer is expensive and clunky. I think they are pricey too.

sorry off topic abit..i've never had a surface skimmer before but i'm keen on getting one but won't the surface skimmer also remove all the fish food that is floating on the surface of the water? meaning that fish food will go to waste? sorry not very sure how it works..thanks for the advise.
Any knows if there's a small surface skimmer for a nano tank?
Got a small cube from my sister and was thinking of setting up a nano tank, like u guys mentioned, the generic surface skimmer is too big. And dabbing with paper towels.. I just know I'll be too lazy after awhile.
If dun have, maybe have to DIY..![]()
I am using rainbar to solve the oil film problem. My tank is a small 1ft and using small external canister filter(like EDEN 501). Previously, I would get oil film everyday. I tried skimming it with small tube when doing water change, also using air stone to agitate the water but it came back everyday. I tried reducing the feeding, no use. The rainbar really did the job for me.
I had this oily film battle for at least a month now and last week, for no reason the oily film disappear.
I got crystal clear water for almost a week now.
