Drop small portion at a time. Algae wafers causes surface film.
Hi,
I'm new to shrimp and had bought a small bottle of algae waffle to
supplement their food. The instruction is in japanese so not sure
what on it.
1) Usually how often do you add the waffle? Twice a week is enough?
2) After the waffle is in the water for abt 1 day, it became a hair ball
how long can i leave it in the tank? forever? or remove it after a couple
of days?
cheers

Heh, I'm imagining these adorable shrimp sized waffles with tiny tiny bottles of maple syrup to go with them![]()
Anyway, as a general rule, it'll take 40 adult cherry shrimp to go through 1 algae wafer the size of a singapore 5¢ coin a day.
So adjust your feeding accordingly. If you're living in a colder climate, reduce the amount since the little guys won't be metabolizing as fast.
ok thanks ...![]()
i feed a 2 inch amano, 1 cherry, 1 malayan, 2 otos and 20+ baby cherries like 1/2 a tablet in 1 week after i change my water, or sometimes with a small portion of hikari shrimp cuisine.
then again depends on your lighting. if your light is switched on for 12 hours like mine, you don't really need to feed them but the feeding will be just to add on to the nutrients.
I used to feed algae wafers to my Red Ramshorn snails and shrimp. But i got this surface film recently that woudnt go.
Until I got mt HOB with surface skimmer, I would refrain from feeding algae disc. I got bloodworms as well that I havent feed to my tetras for quite sometime now.

you can also position your filter to splash some water if possible (outlet out of the surface or something). then it will break the film up =)
Nope, It doesnt work in my tank. I tried everything from papel towel, surface agitation, reduce feeding, etc.
The Eheim surface is skimmer is just too clunky. SO I bought a HOB with surface skimmer in it.
