I don't think so I replace my Aquazonic 12000K with OSRAM 8000K and I do able to see the different. It may not real 12000K but it is not 8000K either.
as above, was asking Chan from na today about the tubes in a 45cm 2x16watt T5 light set.. aquazonic brand.. it shows 12000k kelvin.. i asked chan if its too blueish for planted.. he said acctually its 8k instead of 12k.. the light lite up will be white instead of blue.. if so, why aquazonic print 12k on the light tube?
anyone can explain to me? thanks.

how much is the OSRAM 8000k ones? can pm me? i guess im getting that set from NA.. but 12000k might be too bluish for plants. agree?
I PM you the 3ft price, not sure how much for your bulb size
I myself find that my plants don't grow much as a result of exposure to bulbs from Aquazonic. I think the spectrum is a bit off even if claimed to be 8000k. I changed to Osram and plants started pearl more readily.
no-no-no Aquazonic bulb was 12000K written on the bulb not 8000K. So they did not claim 8000K
thanks shadow for the pm.. yup, aquazonic put 12k.. it was chan who told me its 8k instead of 12k.. i was wondering if its 8k then print 12k for what?
yup.. thats what chan told me too...he also added that the as usual china stuff they like to put the number high high but its not the actual figure
Chances are it's 12K but the blues are outside the visible spectrum, hence giving it the appearance of 8K lighting.
Either that or it's just "marketing" by the chinese manufacturer, sticking a seemingly high number to entice the uninformed buyer who subscribes to the "Bigger number mean more power mah" philosophy.
true.. im getting the light set today.. i'll post picture of it.
can't you trade in the light bulb, even 6500K should be better than 12000K.
came back from NA.. chan say this light tube no more stock.. so cant purchase new one or trade any bulbs.. anyway, it looks like white bulb too.. i might change to 8000k ones..
i tested the light at NA
the light is bright, but cooler looking than my 6500K
yup.. acctually with naked eyes, it does looks like 8000k..
significant increase of light intensity..
reduced the contrast to get a clearer view of the light set. aquazonic one.

you need to compare it side by side other wise difficult. so replace one of your bulb with 8000K
of course there is other possibilities that your eye unable to differentiate due to the brightness
bro shadow,is it that 12k light is brighter but not as good as 8k light for plant growth?
higher K means hotter for light?
Edmund, The Kelvin rating IIRC refers to the temperature at which the filament burns. While it doesn't have any effect on the lumen output, it affects the light spectrum.
So to put it very very simply, the lower the number, the more red light, higher numbers mean more blue.
And for most T8 sized FL tubes, 6500 - 7000 is the closest you're going to get to the colour spectrum of sunlight.
Actually, i have already done a search for T5 6500k, 45cm. There is currently non-available in Singapore, at least for Osram. They come only in 30cm / 60cm. Those in hardware store with 14w x2 (philips) are for 2 FT.
