    Is it possible for just some of crs's color to fade in the same tank? I have about 20 of them in my tank (grade a/s, hino, mosura) with PH around 6 and temp 24-25. I use mosura products in this tank. Few days ago I found out 2 of my crs's color is fading, but the rest is fine. Anyone knows what may cause this? Thx

    can be anything.. from poor genes, pregnancy, stress..etc..

    are the 2 bigger ones bigger than the rest?

    if im not mistaken, i heard that some shrimps from indo, when small, looks fine.. but when they grow older, they're colour esp. the white fades..

    so you have to see where you got your stock from. =)

    Hi Ana,

    the coloration might suffer because of you pH. Around 6 or even lower (?) is the minimum to hold CR. Try to lift it up to 6.5 and have a look at this.

    @ningning
    Their sizes are roughly the same. I got my grade A/S from indo and the high grade ones from singapore. When I first put them for few weeks, their colors are solid white. Now some of the shimp's color is fading.

    @imke
    I'm using ada amazonia 2 for substrate. And I think it causes my ph to be so low, Maybe around 5.5-6. What is the most effective way to raise ph for long term? I have sulawesi tank with PH of 8 because of sulawesi rocks and I tried put one sulawesi rock to my crs tank but it does not seem to raise PH at all. (My tap water's ph is around 7)

    @all
    If the water parameter is not right, is it possible only some will have faded color? Should all of them have faded color when there is something wrong with the water?

    Thx

    ADA Amazonia II was developed for real hard tap water; perhaps Amazonia I would have been better for yours. Try adding O2 and Mineral Tonic. As long as the soil is active it will absorb KH down to zero.

    Coral chips will raise the ph but you must add it gradually or else you will see shrimp deaths.

    My friend told me the first setup with ada amazonia 2, his tank's ph dropped until 4.5. But now after few months, his ph is stable at 6.5
    Is this true that I just need to wait a little longer for the ph to raise by itself? My tank is just 2 months old.

    A pH under 5 might cause death to your shrimp; it's to acid. I would do a moderate water change of 20% with tap water (if possible) until the pH is in an acceptable area.

    If you only sit and wait, the pH will raise after a time because the soil is exhausted and does not change the water parameter so much anymore. This is what happened to your friend's tank.

    how about your gh? the acid water might be one of the reason the color fading.
    if you use co2 at your tank may be you can stop the co2 first, so the ph can raise up a bit.

    You will need many water changes before you can bring up the ph. Do a test before you change the water. After changing water do a test again. Do another test a few hours later and you will find that your ph has returned to the same ph before you started.

    Sorry but I cannot tell you how many, don't think many people can tell you either. You will just have to change water until you get the ph that you want. Alternatively you can add coral chips to raise the ph slowly.

    hi,

    so far i have use one product that help to raise ph and gh slowly and it do not do a sudden spike.

    is a product call : concentrated calcium block.

    so far is good. and it increase the survival rate of baby shrimp.( because baby shrimp change shell very often.)

    ofcouse i also add bacter ball or 100 monthly to increase the bacteria in the water.

    Thx for all the help, I tried adding more sulawesi rocks and I managed to raise ph to 6. Is that acceptable for crs? I have not seen any change to the color of my shrimps. Maybe need to wait a couple of more days. Will give update

    Are you referring to the red or white portion that is fading? I notice that the mineral plus that I am using does improve on the white. However, having said this, the gene is really very important when white is concerned. If they are transparent somehow, there is no way we can improve on the white. On the other hand if they are white, but start to turn pale, then the mineral plus should help.

    yes 6 will be okey for the shrimp. but i just hope that your gh is more than 5. because i have once face a problem with ph 6.0 when the shrimp mold the shrimp cannot make shell. And it die.
