i know calcium defi. isn't like this calcium defi. is like the leaves being crumpled (new leaves).

Symptom of deficiency same to the above picture....
What kind of deficiency do you guys think it is? It seems to me like calcium as the new growth as curling up but what about the patches of green on the apparent red plant? My tank water GH is 5....all of it is Mg?
Tank specs
60X30X45cm
36Wx2PL
pH-6.7
KH-5
GH-5
Nitrate- 20-30ppm (Colour hard to define)
Phosphate- 0.5ppm
K- 20-30ppm
Traces dosing - 2.5ml (2-3X per week)
JBL base fert topped with lonestar (old name) gravel
Basically, I need help with this deficiency and it could well be the problem why my nitrate is not dropping like crazy as it seems all my nutrient requirement are in place. Does Seachem Equilibrium (old formula) cause Ca uptake problems as the ratio preferred is 3(Ca):1(Mg)?

I do have crumpled leaves plus the above pic symptom...more than one deficiency huh???? []

did you try adding calcium ? i had calcium defi. once i just dose a week of JBL ferropol and the defi. is gone. high potassium normally have calcium deficiency. (there was this thread about K dosing a while back)
How r u dosing ur K?
(From theKrib) Small dead areas appear in older leaves. These can start little pinpoints and grow. In some species, like Ceratopteris, the older leaves stay green while the little dead spots grow. The new leaves are reduced in size and leaf area, looking a bit 'singed'. In other species the older leaves can turn yellow before they die, but they do not have green persisting along the major veins as in magnesium deficiency.

he is dosing K (from his water parameters) you must have missed it
That's y my qn is "How" ... The pic sure dun look like Ca deficiency and i'm just trying to find out how he is dosing his K. E.g. Seachem Flourish K ?ml weekly.
ThEoDoRe
The pic is not mine...just an example. ....Okay, I am dosing K2SO4 at 20ppm once after every weekly water change. My green plants are all doing well except the macrandra....mmmm...lights are not block nor are they planted too close..Can high K block uptake of Ca? Tom Barr...maybe you can help me out on this []

Then it may be Ca deficiency. Not sure abt Ferropol but u may wanna try dosing Seachem Reef Calcium (yes, this product is meant for Marine tanks).
ThEoDoRe
Actually I am now trying reef complete...Mr Chan recommend that to me instead of reef calcium....Need to trim away the part that is gone case...Its pretty expensive dosing this way...any cheaper way? New seachem equilibrium available at biotope (the one with higher Ca:Mg)?
Plant Physiology by Taiz and Zeiger
You might consider this cheaper option - CaNO3:MgSO4
Get from Dr. Mallick.
Peter, are you dosing anything that contribute Ca, e.g. Equilibrium, prior to the symptoms? Or have you been using reef calcium from the begining?
At the ppm you are dosing K, I do not think it will block Ca.
I am using the old formula of equilibrium. It is fine. Just need a little more due to lower Ca.
What traces are you using?

Gwee,
You've got email.
Geoffrey, thanks for the enlightenment...I will think PO4 might be my limiting nutrient as it tends to read 0.5ppm even when I dose 1ppm 2 times per week. (Suspect the PO4 reading I get is not usable by plants)...With a limiting nutrient, uptake of other nutrients also suffer, thus leading to Ca and other deficiencies as well?
