Well done if they survive the 7-day window period.

Just to share my experience with all of you...may not be right...

When you buy Altum from LFS, make sure dont choose those with dark strips.
Get those with black strip that are faded and swimming...
When you bring them back home and accustom to your tank enviornment, the strip will show black and nice nice.

Those with dark black strip in LFS will not survive long.

This is my finding after burning $$$...believe or not...

good observation...and folded up caudal fin...another bad bad sign, even worse ! don't even buy from that shipment if some are not looking good; as you say, light stripes are more normal (in that situation).

Your tank looks great for receiving them, and they are terrific looking. congrats. I think the air tube is very good for bringing water up to the surface, without making weakened fish struggle against water current. I may switch to DIY box filters, but same principle, might even use the sponge filter core and tube.

Useful information for those who are new and want to try these fishes out. Its hard to find a batch where all of them are looking good. In cases for altums, the smaller sized ones are much more easy to acclimatize to tank conditions. The most important part would be how you stabilise them the moment they enter your tank.

They should be treated for external bacteria, internal and parasites in this order. Their first feed would be the sign to whether these guys are doing well in your tank. ( Altums are supposed to attack their food readily ). Try to isolate the piece if you observe is under serious bacteria attack from the others as these tend to spread like flu ( ones cured, the other ones down, the cured one will get sick again - cycle ) After that, maintenance would be pretty easy, just keep a stable PH, avoid temperature fluctuations and feed well with regular WC.

Thanks Dave and Vincc for sharing
